Chicago Glazier 2025 Panel Session

Back again and I'm making an effort to post more goodness..

I had the opportunity to attend this Saturday Morning Session.

Here are the highlights..

  • Challenge yourself to coach the side of the ball you don't normally do...
  • You should have a clear philosophy, standards and core identity
  • Put aside your EGO... What do players do best?
  • Get out of your comfort zone!
  • Playbook should be DIVERSE and ADAPTABLE.
  • Build FLEXIBLITY in your playbook, share only what fits your kids from year to year.
  • Coordinators better have a plan, put it in writing, draw it up on the board. THEN, be able to handle all the questions.
  • Have daily non-negotiables.
  • Find the "fingerprint" of the coordinator that you are facing that week, more than just their BASE SCHEME.

  • Off Season: Study the SCHEME you are facing next season. See a coach that runs that scheme.
  • Expensive vs Cheap... Don't install a "play of the week"

  • Visit other programs as a staff, great for bonding as a staff. On the trip home, discuss what can be added to your program.
  • Have a PLAN. How do we feel? What are we doing? Be able to adapt on the fly...have a contingency plan!
  • Have coaches ready to REEL YOU IN... when you get too crazy!
  • Use your local small college. Discover the little things! Technique over Scheme.
  • Lower level game plan... coach should be able explain their thought process and be an extension of the varsity game plan.
  • RELATIONSHIPS MATTER!!! Players will listen an be engaged. Kids should  not be afraid to ask questions. Show them that you are THERE, show them that you CARE

  • TRUST is ESSENTIAL!
  • HONOR the OLINE!
  • Don't be too smart or clever... simple plays... what YOU do best!

Q: How do you get beat?

A: By not having the right personnel in the right spot!

  • IF you haven't been HUMBLED, you are not TRULLY coaching!

Your "PERFECT PLAY" better

have

your

DUDE

in the right SPOT

  • When you go to clinic, contact the coach after the session, interaction improves your understanding.

See you this off season!
