Thoughts On Game Planning & Other Items (Part 1)
I am a numbers guy so let's talk a few....
The Average HS Football team runs 65 plays on Offense...
15 3rd downs per game.
9 between -11 to 25
5 in the Red Zone
and 1 coming Out
As a matter of fact you average 3 plays a game coming out!
of those open field 3rd down plays 6 out of the 9 are between 4-10 yards.
You will play approximately 15 snaps in the Red Zone (25 in)
and have 8 P&10 plays.....
Why Am I giving you all this data?
I call it the economy of how to plan and how to practice your plan...
3 things that kill offensive drives 1) TFL, 2) Turnovers, 3) Sacks (this will be helpful later)
So when you do your scouting for the week, shouldn't you spend as much Time OR really more on Red Zone than 3rd Down?
16 plays in the RZ as opposed to 15 3rd Down Calls which by the way (5 will be in the Red Zone)
Coming Out (why do teams not keep the same 3 or 4 plays a game, perhaps even all season????)
Shouldn't your 3rd and short be bread and butter plays and maybe a shot off of it?
The Economy of Game Planning - Part 1 just the data...
If for some reason you have checked out our 20-minute Clinic on the Counter Run game and Variations here it is....
