Chicago Glazier 2025 Panel Session

Back again and I'm making an effort to post more goodness..

I had the opportunity to attend this Saturday Morning Session.

Here are the highlights..

  • Challenge yourself to coach the side of the ball you don't normally do...
  • You should have a clear philosophy, standards and core identity
  • Put aside your EGO... What do players do best?
  • Get out of your comfort zone!
  • Playbook should be DIVERSE and ADAPTABLE.
  • Build FLEXIBLITY in your playbook, share only what fits your kids from year to year.
  • Coordinators better have a plan, put it in writing, draw it up on the board. THEN, be able to handle all the questions.
  • Have daily non-negotiables.
  • Find the "fingerprint" of the coordinator that you are facing that week, more than just their BASE SCHEME.

  • Off Season: Study the SCHEME you are facing next season. See a coach that runs that scheme.
  • Expensive vs Cheap... Don't install a "play of the week"

  • Visit other programs as a staff, great for bonding as a staff. On the trip home, discuss what can be added to your program.
  • Have a PLAN. How do we feel? What are we doing? Be able to adapt on the fly...have a contingency plan!
  • Have coaches ready to REEL YOU IN... when you get too crazy!
  • Use your local small college. Discover the little things! Technique over Scheme.
  • Lower level game plan... coach should be able explain their thought process and be an extension of the varsity game plan.
  • RELATIONSHIPS MATTER!!! Players will listen an be engaged. Kids should  not be afraid to ask questions. Show them that you are THERE, show them that you CARE

  • TRUST is ESSENTIAL!
  • HONOR the OLINE!
  • Don't be too smart or clever... simple plays... what YOU do best!

Q: How do you get beat?

A: By not having the right personnel in the right spot!

  • IF you haven't been HUMBLED, you are not TRULLY coaching!

Your "PERFECT PLAY" better

have

your

DUDE

in the right SPOT

  • When you go to clinic, contact the coach after the session, interaction improves your understanding.

See you this off season!

TE's = $ in the Passing Game & RPO Clinic Tape

3 Ways Using The Tight End can improve your Passing Game & RPO Clinic Tape

******** IF You are reading this BLOG Post between 11/26/2019 and 12/4/2019, all of my coachtube classes are 65% off for Black Friday and Cyber Monday --> CLICK HERE  ***********

3 Ways we have used the TE to enhance our offense are as follows.

1. Flood is a great concept, very rarely do I run Sprint Out, however this was our most effective Flood Pass, great explosive and great on third and 7+

2. Depending on how much of a weapon your TE is, Trips usually pulls the coverage towards it and that leaves a chance to run weak flood, if teams run what is known as "Steal" coverage.

Combining Smash with Drive, gives us a great weak flood concept...

3. Throwing Verticals has a lot to do with spacing, one of the best ways to formation a defense is using Empty with one or multiple tight ends. Depending on how teams rotate you can get a vertical shot called combined with seam read and shallow allowing for shallow dig as a response or a quick seam shot.

Here is film on all 3 concepts.

RPO Clinic

Here is film on Study Tape for RPO's.. I have been holding on to this one for a LONG TIME. I think you will find something useful or it will reinforce something that you do!

3 Day Install Part Deaux

How do you install your offense?

I want to update my original article I wrote on our install process. You can read it here.

This update all started with this question on twitter from Coach Grabowski.
And the majority  of what I said there hasn't changed.

We still do the rotation so it is really a 9 day install.

1A, 2A, 3A
1B, 2B, 3B
1C, 2C, 3C

Our Breakdown is simple.

The 1st series includes:  Zone (Outside / Inside) , 4 Verts, 3 Verts, Hitches, Slants & Rocket Screen
The 2nd series includes: Power (Read), dart, Spacing, Snag, Curls, Smash, Middle Screen
The 3rd series includes: Counter, Draw, Flood, Stick, GL concepts, RB Screens

So let's talk breakdown of the 1st series deeper.

So when we think Inside Zone - we know we want to run these variations

  • With motion
  • To the TE
  • Away from the TE
  • H-back
  • Bluff
  • RPO (pre & post snap)

So when we break down our 3 days we spread this out over each one.

And we do the same thing for each concept that day before designing the install.

Outside Zone

  • No motion
  • With motion
  • Pistol
  • RPO

4 Verts

  • Out
  • Shallow & delay

Hitches - Juke series

I know the install can be done faster and shorter. But this, to me, gives you the chance to build the playbook for that season, get great variation and be precise with what you install.

I thank everyone who has purchased my Coach Tube Class, you can still get 20% off from this blog!

3 DAY INSTALL by Coach Banks

Install your offense and 3 days and just repeat! That has been the wave of what football coaches have been saying for the past few years. This post agrees but disagrees with them! Our install schedule on offense has a 10 plan. Which is broken down into three groups, and each group has three parts. Basically we take each install section and have an A, B and C part. People have asked me why we do it that way. To me the answer is simple. As an educator, I look at teaching my players the same way I teach my students. I would never start off teaching multi-step equations on day one without first teaching them one and two step equations, so why would I do that on the football field?

Our Spring Football and Preseason Install Schedule goes as follows for Ten Days:

Day One     Day Two Day Three
1A 2A 3A

Day Four Day Five Day Six
1B 2B 3B

Day Seven Day Eight Day Nine
1C 2C 3C

Day TEN is SCRIMMAGE.

Pretty straightforward right?
I know you want to know what goes in each group and how we determine what goes in A, B, C.
Here is a sample for us.

RUNS
  • INSIDE ZONE
  • OUTSIDE ZONE

PASSES
  • VERTS
  • LEVELS
  • HITCHES
  • STICK
  • TE DRIVE SERIES

SCREENS
  • JAILBREAKS
  • KEYS

So on Day A: We are installing Base Formations no motions, no tags, simple line up fast and play the basics (one step equations).
When we come back to 1B: We add something all of our motions, our combo plays for example zone/stick & stretch/pop pass, still no tags (two step equations)
Then when we get to 1C: Everything (Verts with shallows, and Fade/Out , stick/nod, hitches w/ corner and fades, etc) (multi-step equations)

This is our modified three day install with groups. 10 day install keeping it easy and simple for our players to learn, after the ten days we meet again as a staff to determine what to keep and what to throw away.
